‘The biggest project we are undertaking in the history of Bangladesh is the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at the cost of Tk1,13,093cr’
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved 12 projects worth Tk30,343.22 crore during its last meeting for the current fiscal year on Tuesday.
The government will spend Tk25,904.43cr to implement these projects while the rest of the funding will be made by the companies who will implement the projects.
During a press briefing after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said: “This year’s projected expenditure is the biggest since the Fiscal Year of 2014-2015.
“The biggest project we are undertaking in the history of Bangladesh is the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at the cost of Tk1,13,093cr.”
The minister added that the historically significant Bangabandhu Satellite will hopefully take to the skies by December.
Ecnec has approved 739 projects during the last two fiscal years.
The 12 approved projects are
The expansion of Palli Electricity Network in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong and Mymensingh, at the cost of Tk7,132.30cr implemented by either the Power Division or Bangladesh Palli Unnayan Board within 2019.
The expansion of Palli Electricity Network in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Rangpur, at the cost of Tk6,776.91cr.
Distribution of school lunches in impoverished areas implemented by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education at the cost of Tk4,991.97cr by 2020.
BPATC training capacity building at the cost of Tk859cr implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Support to the Dhaka portion of the Elevated Expressway Public Private Partnership Project at the cost of Tk4,869.08cr to be implemented by the Bridges Division by 2020.
Upgrading two-lane roads on Dharkhal, Akhawra to of four lanes on the national highway near Sarail river port in Ashuganj at the cost of Tk3,567.85cr.
The construction of Payra Bridge connecting the Barisal Patuakhali Highway at the cost of Tk1,278.82cr.
Railway overpasses at the Gatepar area in Jamalpur town at the cost of Tk211.20cr.
DSCC infrastructure renovation including roads and drains at the cost of Tk98.70cr.
Building the Bangladesh Chancery Complex and high commissioner’s residence in Brunei at the cost of Tk89.50cr by 2019.
Disaster management in Cox’s Bazar by building embankments at the cost of Tk363.12cr.
